MARIA SADOWSKA
BIOGRAPHY
Defiant and uncompromising, Maria Sadowska follows her own path, shunning sensationalism and publicity. She has been present on the Polish music scene for over 20 years. Her versatility allows her to blend genres as diverse as jazz, funk, electronic music, and pop. Recognized as a vocalist, director, composer, and lyricist, she has recorded 13 albums, including two released in Japan. Her breakthrough album, "Tribute to Komeda" (Golden Record), proved to be a milestone in Polish music history. She has collaborated with numerous Polish and international artists, including Michel Legrand, Michał Urbaniak, Jan Ptaszyn-Wróblewski, Bogusław Mec, and Urszula Dudziak. She was the only Polish vocalist to perform at the prestigious, anniversary Jazz Jamboree Festival.
Maria graduated from the Directing Department of the National Film School in Łódź and has been successfully developing film projects for years. Her feature debut, "Women's Day," premiered at the 37th Gdynia Film Festival and won numerous awards in Poland and internationally, including the Grand Prix at the 22nd Film Festival Cottbus. In 2017, her next film, "The Art of Loving," which tells the life story of Michalina Wisłocka, premiered. The film received numerous positive reviews, numerous prestigious awards, and reached number one at the Polish box office, with over 2 million admissions.
A few years later, she repeated this success with the film "Girls from Dubai," which was shown in cinemas around the world and remained in the top ten most-watched films on Netflix for six months. In 2013, Maria accepted an invitation to participate in the biggest television music competition, "The Voice of Poland," where she became one of four coaches. She was the only coach in the history of the Polish edition of the show to lead her contestants to victory three times.
The singer cemented her musical status with the album "Jazz na ulici," released in April 2014, which quickly achieved Gold Record status. In 2021, she released her next album, "Początek Nocy," which leans more towards modern pop. The album was nominated for a Fryderyk Award, and her duet with Kayah, "Kocham Cię," gained millions of fans and views on YouTube. A Valentine's Day TikTok campaign related to the song reached 5 million views on social media.
Currently, the artist is working on further film projects and recording a new album, this time in collaboration with prominent Polish electronic music artists, including Gooral and DJ Seb. After a break devoted to further film projects, such as "Pokusa," "Miłość na Pierwsze" (Love on the First Side), and the TV series "Rodzina Na Maxa," Maria is returning to the stage and to active concert performances.
